Above The Clouds

Series Statement

Above the Clouds explores memory, imagination, and the emotional landscapes that emerge between nature and perception. Through fluid watercolor forms, shifting colors, and atmospheric spaces, the series invites viewers into a contemplative realm where boundaries between reality and dream become increasingly porous.

Above The Clouds

Freud once remarked:

“Art is the unifying field in which modern civilization preserves the absolute power of thought.”

The sky is neither blue, nor white, nor gray.

Because colors can transform into one another. They can coexist.

Little clouds are towels drying their droplets.

From the highest peaks of mountains,
the sky draws ever closer, and the mountains rise higher still.

Trees are female, motherly beings. Emerging from a bath of clouds, they become shelters for migrating birds, and soon will wear a garment woven from their presence.

When we dream, we are surrounded by symbols and meaningful forms that awaken a spiritual pleasure within us. These forms are built upon universal mysteries that confront us with countless questions: What are planets? How do they float in the vastness of space? Why does a snake become such a compelling image for love?

Do these galaxy-like forms that stimulate our imagination invite us on a sublime journey toward higher realms? Is this what artist Ayşe seeks to evoke?

This is an artistic narrative that searches for aesthetics within the tables contained in its own structure; a visual language in which compositional construction becomes an essential element in the formation of artistic concepts. Endless moments unfold through colors, lines, and points, creating a boundless harmony.

This harmony is the source of the work’s beauty. Independent and self-contained, it embarks on a journey toward its own artistic truth. It is a beauty that recalls the kinship of colors, balanced forms, and openings that extend toward distant horizons. Emotional resonance emerges through spaces filled with visual elements, where movement and stillness coexist in equilibrium.

In Ayşe’s visual universe, descriptive impressions infused with mystery emerge from a point where movement itself becomes the essence of existence. This is a genuinely dialectical relationship, enriched by an awareness of the environment and an invitation to engage with fundamental images.

The colors that arise naturally from within the work evoke distant associations. They push beyond visual boundaries, and the melodies of color offer the viewer a unique sensory experience. Like a composer writing harmonious notes, the artist brings rhythms and tones together in a visual space that invites discovery and opens new dimensions of perception.

Particularly striking are the beams of light that break free from between the clouds, reclaiming their freedom, like sunlight filtering through a glass ceiling into an interior space.

Toy Dolls

This series revisits the bond formed with toys in childhood through the perspective of adulthood. The contrasts between innocence and awareness, play and reality, are explored through the concept of part and whole, forming the central axis of the work. The intuitive and pure relationship established in childhood evolves into a more layered and questioning perspective in adulthood, a transformation visualized through the figures.

The figures take shape at the intersections of these oppositions; they appear both fragile and strong, both whole and fragmented. These dualities reveal fundamental questions about the human condition: How is identity formed? How is the connection between past and present shaped?

The series engages with the concepts of memory and transformation within the tension created by these contrasts. Through a visual language constructed with color, line, and form, it invites the viewer to reflect on both individual and collective experiences. The relationship between parts is not only a formal inquiry but also an expression of a desire for wholeness in existence.

Garden

Garden explores nature not as a landscape to be depicted, but as a collection of traces, colors, and emotional impressions held in memory. Throughout the series, the garden becomes a metaphor for the intuitive and personal relationship between humans and the natural world.

The fluidity of watercolor allows botanical forms, trees, flowers, and fragments of landscape to emerge and dissolve. Moving between abstraction and figuration, the works reflect nature’s continuous cycles of transformation and impermanence. Layers of color, light, and organic marks evolve around themes of growth, change, fragility, and renewal.

Rather than representing nature directly, the series seeks to reveal the emotional connections formed through encounters with it. Each work invites viewers into an open visual space where they may reconnect with their own memories, seasons, and experiences of the natural world.
